The family of a 16-year-old girl who died in a crash near Bushton have asked the community to line the streets for her funeral.

Toya Jefferies, from Royal Wootton Bassett, was a passenger when a car crashed on an unnamed road between Bushton and Hilmarton on Thursday, August 29.

The 16-year-old has been described by her family as “loved by everyone she met” and “a little firecracker who touched everyone’s hearts.”

Her funeral will now be held at St Bartholomew’s Church in Royal Wootton Bassett on Tuesday, October 1, at midday.

A procession will also lead up the High Street to the church, and members of the community wishing to pay their respects have been asked to wear something blue, Toya’s favourite colour, and line the street from 11.30am.

Donations in memory of Toya will be for Headways and CAMHS, and these can be given on the day or sent c/o Johnson & Daltrey Funeral Services, at 112 High Street in Royal Wootton Bassett.

Johnson and Daltrey will release the route details and specific timings closer to the time and will be the point of contact for any queries.

The community has helped to raise just under £9,000 for Toya's family via a GoFundMe page that you can find here - https://www.gofundme.com/f/lets-help-give-toya-jefferies-the-goodbye-she-deserves

16-year-old Toya has been remembered as a loving daughter to Wayne and Tracy, sister to Nichole, Leon and Amber, and Auntie to Robyn-Marie and Maiya-Ivy, as well as a ‘beautiful granddaughter, niece, and friend to so many.’

A tribute from her family states: “Toya was the most beautiful, amazing daughter. She was tragically taken from us and her family on August 29, 2024.

“The only way to describe Toya is a little firecracker who touched everyone’s hearts. She was loved by everyone she met and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

“With the tragic circumstances, we can see how much Toya was loved and how she has brought our community together.”

Her death comes after Wiltshire Police officers were called to the single-vehicle crash involving a Renault Clio at about 9.45pm on August 29, less than 10 miles south of Swindon at the junction with Withy Bed Crossroads.

An arrest was made of an 18-year-old man, the driver of the car, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Wiltshire Police had also confirmed that a 17-year-old was later arrested.

Both were released under investigation.
