A planning application for a rebuilt Oasis Centre is expected before the end of 2024 according to the site’s owners Seven Capital.

The company has launched a new website to be able to show those plans when they are available as well as get feedback from residents.

Seven Capital, better known as a housing developer, is the de facto owner of the Oasis Centre, holding about 90 years left of a 99-year lease.

The site at swindonoasis.co.uk is two simple pages at the moment, with a form to fill in to provide Seven Capital with details such as name, phone number and email address.

A spokesman for the company said: “The planning submission will be in line with the development agreement between Seven Capital and Swindon Borough Council and is expected later this year.

“Once plans have been submitted the website will be populated with information for residents to view in their own time and provide feedback via an online form should they be unable or prefer not to attend in-person consultation events.

“Further information on planning submission and subsequent consultation dates and venue will be provided in due course.”

The target for re-opening the new centre is 2026, the 50th anniversary of its opening.

Speaking about the proposed reopening date, at the time that it was set Council leader Jim Robbins said he has been "keen to see the Oasis reopen as soon as possible and nothing has changed on that".

He added: "While we would rather it happened faster and will do all we can in power to speed it up, a reopened Oasis being enjoyed by the people of Swindon on its anniversary will be great," he said.

When quizzed during an Overview & Scrutiny Committee, Cllr Robbins was asked if there was enough time to meet a 2026 target date, and he replied “It should be. We’ve been told that once shovels are in the ground it’s about a year to build.”

But Cllr Robbins said: “Planning is key and it is the largest unknown in the whole process.”
