A person has died on train tracks between Swindon and Didcot Parkway.

Great Western Railway cancelled services between the two stations and blocked railway lines while the emergency services attended the scene.

The incident happened at around 8.30am on Tuesday near Faringdon Road outside Wantage on the railway bridge.

The death is not believed to be suspicious, according to the British Transport Police.

A spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near Wantage at around 8.28am (September 17) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Services were cancelled, revised, or delayed by up to 90 minutes throughout much of the morning as rail replacement options were made available to passengers.

All lines had reopened by 11.45am but disruption to train schedules continued until 3pm.
