Swindon's Tented Market has seen better days.

In April, town centre shoppers spotted work being carried out in the abandoned eyesore.

In May, owner Panther Securities Plc told the Adver that it was in discussions with a local businessman who may be interested in taking charge of the site and reopening the market.

At the moment, some sort of indoor clearance effort appears to be underway, with piles of insulation material, woodwork and plastic filling much of the space that once housed several stalls.

The recent activity at the site - the first seen since it closed in 2017 - has revived hopes that the much-missed retail hub which opened in 1994 could one day return.

The fairground-style design of its iconic roof intended to bring to mind traditional attractions that were often featured on market days.

Panther Securities previously said that the works carried out on-site in the spring were to prepare the space for an unspecified short to medium-term use "where we might keep it as it is and just change what we do with it".
