Two new weather warnings for thunderstorms have been issued for Swindon and Wiltshire.

The Met Office expects thunderstorms and heavy showers to cause some disruption on Friday around the south west between 12pm and 8pm.

A spokesperson added: "Expect some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes.

"Driving conditions may be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.

"Delays to train services are possible. Some short-term loss of power and other services is likely."

There is an 80 per cent chance of storms hitting Swindon from 2pm to 4pm on September 20, with some heavy showers during the rest of the afternoon.

A second yellow-level weather warning will be in place from 1am to 11.59pm on Saturday.

The spokesperson added: "Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly.

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."
