The new name and opening date of a relaunching Swindon restaurant has been revealed.

Chef Josh West will soon be serving up top-quality burgers inside Jack's at the top of Victoria Road, with a curated menu headlined by a £25 real truffle burger.

He previously opened Pick Up Point on Devizes Road in October 2021 and built up a loyal following before the business closed at the end of July this year.

Last week, Mr West announced that he would soon be back in business after securing a partnership with Jack's.

On Friday, he told customers more about his new venture.

He said: "It's better to reign in hell than serve in heaven. I've decided to stay in Swindon.

"Like a phoenix, Pick Up Point has risen from the ashes, with a new name and a new venue. Welcome to the House of Bun.

"We are open Friday and Saturday nights from 6pm to 11pm at 120 Victoria Road in Old Town.

"We are officially opening on Friday, October 4, 2024."

The menu includes cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, fries, dips, Korean-inspired dishes, and vegetarian options.

After Josh's Sunday roasts proved popular at his former business, he will also be in charge of sorting out the Sunday roasts at Jack's.

Opening hours are 6 to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. It is recommended that customers make reservations or arrive early to guarantee a table.

(Image: House of Bun.) Josh is known for his flair for bold, authentic flavours, and is particularly proud of his latest creation, a burger that is unlike anything else on offer in Swindon.

It is made with real truffles from the Wiltshire Truffles business founded by his friend Zak Frost, who hunts for wild truffles with specially-trained dogs and sends the rare fungus to Michelin-starred restaurants in London.

Josh added: "Truffle oil lovers look away now! Truffle oil is the Poundland cologne of the food world.

"All truffle oil is a synthetic flavour. It’s like Sunny Delight vs freshly squeezed orange juice. People know about truffles because of truffle oil, so this is an opportunity to show what its real flavour is all about.

“We get our beef from Walter Rose that’s raised on Stokes Marsh farm near Devizes and add 10 per cent fresh suet to it.

"We make our own truffle cheese slices with mild cheddar, Gruyère, cream and grated black winter truffle that’s almost like a fondue that we set in the fridge. We make mayonnaise and grate in more truffle and Parmesan.

"It’s very simple, in order to get max truffle flavour.

"There are no superfluous additions or cheffy nonsense and certainly none of that ghastly truffle oil that has only served to mislead people from what true truffle flavour and aroma is all about.”

“Josh has worked at top restaurants in Europe and the Cotswolds and we’re so lucky to have someone like that in Old Town.

"It’s a great sign for Old Town’s development as businesses share spaces and create new experiences for diners.”

This will be the second Old Town business to move to Jack's following The Core Juicery, which had been serving smoothies, fresh juices, acai bowls and healthy brunch dishes to locals since it launched in 2013 from the same building as Los Gatos before settling into its new home down the road in August.
