Locals in a residential part of Swindon have spotted travellers setting up camp in a field opposite their homes.

An Eldene resident posted on social media to inform their community that they had seen travellers moving into a field in Eldene Drive Park, opposite Acorn Close and Bob May Court, on Saturday morning.

Several caravans were parked up and one local said they had seen children playing around the site, saying: “I walked past earlier, children are all clean and fed playing on the park, their dogs well looked after, there's no litter or antisocial behaviour, leave them be.”

Earlier this week, residents in West Swindon expressed concerns about "noisy" travellers after seeing caravans parked near the Spectrum building, before they were moved off the premises and settled next door near the old DSS House in Rivermead Industrial Estate.

In August, witnesses saw approximately 10 caravans and associated vehicles parked around Shaw Forest Park, after the lock to the main gate had been cut.

That group, believed to be a different group to the one in Eldene, moved on after a week and reportedly left soiled nappies, used condoms, toilet paper, household waste and rotting food, while litter-pickers were left to tidy up the mess.
