Roads and paths in Swindon are flooding while a government flood warning has been issued as heavy rain continues to fall on the county.
Groundwater is present on major roads near Coate Water and Queens Drive, where warning signs have been erected, while low-lying footpaths are submerged.
The government warning states that river levels are rising in the River Cole, Dorcan Brook and South Marston Brook with low-level flooding expected in the surrounding area of Lower Stratton.
Property flooding is not expected but low lying footpath could be affected.
The warning on the gov.uk website adds: “Further heavy rainfall is forecast over the coming 18 hours. We expect river levels to rise over the next few hours in response to ongoing rainfall.
“The Dorcan Brook is also rising in the Swindon area and expected to continue to rise over the coming few hours.
“Our staff are checking and clearing trash screens. We are monitoring the situation. Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses”
A Met Office weather warning was upgraded earlier today from yellow to the more serious amber, meaning a higher likelihood of flooding.
This warns against travelling due to difficult driving conditions. Multiple Wiltshire roads are already experiencing higher traffic due to flooding.
