Swindon Borough Council has revealed the number of floods which hit Swindon after a day of constant rain.
When rain from the weekend continued heavily into Monday morning on September 23, it quickly became clear that some areas might be at risk of flooding.
However, very few people in Swindon expected the town to be hit quite so badly.
An amber weather warning issued by the Met Office on Monday predicted 'some flooding and travel disruption.'
But Swindon Borough Council has now revealed that on by 5pm on Monday, September 23, it had received 77 reports of flooding in areas across the town.
"It’s important to stress that this will include a number of potential flooding issues which will need to be dealt with by the Environment Agency or Thames Water as they will come under their responsibility," said a spokesperson for the council.
"We will obviously contact the Environment Agency/Thames Water directly when there is an emergency."
The worst affected road in Swindon appeared to be Pipers Way which was impassable to motorists in the morning, with water levels reaching the top of car tyres.
However, the Mead Way/Great Western Way roundabout also caused significant disruption as one lane heading towards The Runner pub was turned into a pond, and motorists from all lanes were forced to merge into one.
With rainfall set to continue into Tuesday morning, the Met Office has now warned that flooding in Swindon could worsen overnight.
