Trains have been cancelled after the railway line between Swindon and Chippenham has flooded
Adverse weather has been seen across the town throughout Monday after severe rainfall fell all day.
The flooding has blocked the line between the two Wiltshire stations with disruption expected until the end of Monday at the very least.
Great Western Railway (GWR) confirmed the news this evening (Monday, September 23) on their website.
A spokesperson said: "Due to heavy rain flooding the railway between Swindon and Chippenham the line towards Chippenham is blocked. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
"Train services between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads via Bath Spa may be cancelled, delayed or diverted between Swindon and Bristol Temple Meads."
This comes after Swindon was severely impacted by the all-day deluge with homes and businesses flooding.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue received reports that three homes had flooded, with firefighters needing to pump water out of one property.
Swindon Borough Council confirmed it had received 77 reports of flooding in areas across the town by 5pm, but a spokesperson added: "It’s important to stress that this will include a number of potential flooding issues which will need to be dealt with by the Environment Agency or Thames Water as they will come under their responsibility."
