Intel has based its European headquarters in Swindon for more than 40 years.

The tech giant invested more than £5 million into constructing a purpose-built office complex on Pipers Way in the early 1980s.

Pictures from the Adver archives show the progress of this development, from the first dig in the ground to the topping out ceremony, and give us a peek inside along with glimpses of computers that were once considered cutting-edge.

Intel staff often made an effort to support good causes around the town by taking part in challenges, activities, and fundraising events including a Three Peaks Challenge, tai chi class, big sleep out, roadshows, and big donations to local schools and charities.

The company is now seeking to sell the building to a new owner and relocate to another location which is yet to be confirmed, though a spokesperson for the global corporation previously promised that it would stay in the Swindon area.
