Wiltshire roads are still shut by flooding two days after a downpour hit the county causing widespread traffic issues.

Thames Water has explained the reason for the flooding was their sewage and piping systems were unable to cope with the deluge which added “huge pressure”.

Reports of inspection chamber covers being pushed off by overloaded sewers were being reported to councils as streets filled with water.

Some roads are still closed due to the water. Divided by area, these include:

Trowbridge

B3106 - Road closed with floodgates at Holt and Staverton between B3105 New Terrace and The Tollgate Inn.

Melksham

B3107 Bradford Road - Partially blocked due to flooding both ways between A350 Western Way (Farmers roundabout) and Broughton Gifford turn off.

Lacock

The Wharf - Both ways closed due to flooding from The Bell Inn to The National Trust turning.

Reybridge

Erlestoke/Westbury

B3098 Westbury Road

More rain forecast

Meanwhile, more heavy rain is forecast to hit the county today, September 25, according to the Met Office.

Rain is forecast from 12 to 6pm, becoming heavier throughout the day and peaking around 4 and 5pm when it will be “heavy”.

The impact this could have on flooding is noted in remaining government flood alerts, which warn: “Tomorrow's (September 25) forecast is for heavier showers. 

“We expect river levels to remain high over the coming days.”
