A warning shot has been fired at drivers who inconsiderately park in front of alleyways blocking them.

The issue is particularly prevalent in the the tightly packed Broadgreen area of Swindon where it has become a special focus for Swindon Borough Council and the police

Wiltshire Police said: “Community members in Broadgreen have raised concerns with regards to vehicles parked, causing an obstruction to the alleyways.

“Police are working closely with Swindon Borough Council's Parking Enforcement Officers and enforcement action has already been taken place.

“In respect of this offence, any person in charge of a motor vehicle, who causes or permits it to stand on a road to cause any unnecessary obstruction, commits the offence and should your vehicle be found parked illegally, a fixed penalty notice will likely be issued, or the vehicle may be towed away.

“If in doubt the alleyways around Broadgreen and many other residential areas of Swindon, form part of the highway and therefore constitute a road, as such must be left clear of any obstruction!”

Ward councillor and council cabinet member Councillor Adorabelle Shaikh added: “It’s good to see Swindon Central South police working on residents' feedback and supporting the community.

“As ward councillor for central, I will continue to work with all our officers and partners.”
