An air ambulance landed in Grange Park in Swindon for a nighttime emergency along with other emergency services.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance Charity confirmed that at 7.05pm on September 24 it attended a medical emergency in the area.

It was seen by eyewitnesses circling above the neighbourhood before landing with police also attending to take paramedics somewhere nearby.

A patient was treated at this scene before being escorted by ground to Great Western Hospital.

A Wiltshire Air Ambulance Charity spokesperson said: “Wiltshire Air Ambulance Charity was called to a medical emergency in Swindon at 1905 hours on 24 September 2024.

“We attended in our helicopter and treated a patient before ground escorting them to the Great Western Hospital.”

Wiltshire Police have been approached for a comment.

The air ambulance service is not funded by the NHS and instead runs as a charity, it requires £4.5m to continue flying and saving lives, which is the equivalent of £12,000 per day.

This year it has seen a sharp rise in the number of callouts.

Safety and ground operations manager Richard Miller said: "Unfortunately this has been the busiest start to a year on record for Wiltshire Air Ambulance Charity.

"It means more people are becoming critically ill or injured across Wiltshire and Bath, requiring the skills and expertise of our aircrew."

"However, we would not be able to carry out this lifesaving work if it wasn't for the amazing donors and local businesses who help our charity by raising vital funds to keep our helicopters flying and saving lives."
