A man sharing a name with a favourite James Bond actor has had driving offence charges dropped.

Roger Moore of Swindon had already lost his driving license when failing a breath test.

He was charged with drink driving and driving while disqualified in May 2024, and convicted following trial at Swindon Magistrates Court after pleading not guilty with a sentencing due on November 4, 2024.

On September 20, the police charged Moore, 54, of Ballance Street, Bath, formerly of Akers Way, with two more offences related to this incident. (Image: Wiltshire Police)

These were taking a vehicle without the owner's consent and using a mobile phone while driving. The two new offences happened in a Volvo V90 on Mead Way, while the original two happened in Chapel Street.

However, it was decided that it was unlikely any convictions for these offences would materially affect any sentence Moore would be given.

The Crown Prosecution Service took the decision it was no longer in the public interest to pursue the charges and so they were withdrawn.

The famous Roger Moore did once visit Swindon in 1984 filming for A View To A Kill in the Spectrum Building in West Swindon. The building was the lair of villain Max Zorin.
