The finishing touches can now be put to the latest in a series of Grand Designs-style self-build dream homes in north Swindon.

Developer L. Grant was given initial permission for a large family home to be built in Ilett Crescent in Tadpole Garden Village last year.

Swindon Borough Council approved his plan for a large and distinctive four-bedroom house at plot 4.

Ilett Crescent was set aside in the original plan and layout of Tadpole Garden Village for 14 self- and custom-built houses.

The house being constructed at number 4  has four bedrooms, with the master bedroom facing the front of the building featuring its own en suite shower and lavatory and a walk-in wardrobe and dressing room.

Downstairs a large open-plan living, dining, and kitchen space is complemented by a study and office, a utility room and an attached double garage.

Having started work on the building Mr Grant needed to get another permission for a change to his design - instead of a white render, the gable wall on the front of the house will be clad in brick.

The issue was whether that complies with the design code setting out what’s acceptable in the development – but council officers were content.

Like several of the houses in the street Number 4 features tall picture windows at the front giving views over green fields and, it must be said, the rear of some slightly scruffy farm buildings.
