A power cut has hit dozens of homes in the Swindon area.

SSEN reports a planned outage near Blunsdon and South Marston that began at 8am and is affecting 133 properties in 11 SN26 postcodes.

This temporary loss of electricity will allow the utility company to carry out essential work to its nearby electrical equipment, and will last until 11pm.

A SSEN spokesperson added: "By doing this, it'll help us to improve the reliability of our service to you.

At the same time, an unplanned outage - first reported at 8.10am - is affecting 21 more customers in nine other SN26 postcodes.

Engineers are due to arrive at the scene at 9.30am. Power will be restored to these homes and buildings by 1.30pm.

The spokesperson said: "We're aware of a fault on our local network affecting several homes.

"This means that you and some of your neighbours will be affected by the power cut, but not all - this is why you may notice that some of your neighbours have power while you do not.

"Our engineers are on the way.

"The cause of this power cut is a fault on our underground network. In most cases, our engineers are able to get your power back on by replacing a fuse at the local substation."
