A community village pub that had faced months of upheaval has now been boarded up and closed to the public.

The Patriots Arms on New Road in Chiseldon first closed in 2023 after then-boss Sunny Patel departed.

The community pub was then reopened by a new managing couple Jane and Graeme Jeapes formerly of the closed-down Crumpled Horn in Eldene who began serving drinks while they planned a big turnaround.

Speaking to the Swindon Advertiser in June 2024, they promised a "community hub" with a new kitchen set to reopen between August and September.

Plans for the refurbishment included a bar, a quiet dining area, and a garden with a children's play area.

But despite these plans, the pub has struggled financially to survive.

In August 2024 customer service manager Graeme promised things would "finally change from September 8."

But as of September 30, the 'Pat's Arms' now appeared boarded up and closed.

This comes after businesses, such as Wiltshire Timber and Rapid Hire, lent equipment or materials and locals chipped in to provide monetary support.

The last message to its punters issued by the pub in August stated: "My apologies to all our regulars and patrons. For weeks it has been a battle, financially.

"I do understand the frustration and worries about the stability of the Patriot Arms.

"I can promise you the Patriot Arms will survive and become alive again after that date (September 8).

"Legally the pub would have had to close until then.

"But I love this village and people, hence why I am still fighting. The reason I fell in love with this pub and village was the hearts of the people that drink there.

"No one is more embarrassed about the shortage of stock now at the moment than we are."

The pub has not been active on social media for almost two months and phone lines appear to have been disconnected.

The Patriots Arms has been contacted by the Swindon Advertiser for further comment but is yet to respond.
