Asda has apologised to customers after a “technical issue” prevented supermarkets around Wiltshire from opening on time.

The retailer’s branches in West Swindon and Trowbridge both failed to open as planned on the morning of Monday, September 30, after the problem hit stores around the country.

Both stores have since opened, later than usual, and Asda has revealed that the issues have now been resolved.

It is understood that the issue was linked to a planned overnight update of technical systems, which took place on Sunday evening.

The problem has impacted customers at Asda stores throughout the UK, with many contacting the supermarket to complain.

Replying to members of the public on Twitter, a spokesperson apologised for any inconvenience caused.

They added: “Good morning! Some of our stores opened later than planned today due to a technical issue affecting checkouts.
