A driver who was allegedly drunk with a child in the car has been arrested after a crash on the outskirts of Swindon.

Wiltshire Police officers were first called to the scene of a collision on Lydiard Green, on the west outskirts of Swindon, just after 8pm on Friday, September 27.

The crash which was described by officers as a "glancing blow that could have been a head-on collision" destroyed the front wheels of both cars involved, leaving serious damage to the vehicles.

After carrying out a roadside breath test, officers found that the offending driver had a reading of 126. The legal limit for drink driving is 35 and under.

The driver is also believed to have had a child in the car at the time of the crash.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and being drunk in charge of a child.

"He has been released under investigation for drink driving pending a forensic urine result and has been no further action for the drunk in charge of a child."
