Coffee lovers will be pleased to hear that the new Starbucks store at Swindon train station will be open from today.

An application was submitted to Swindon Borough Council’s planning department earlier this year to convert the refreshment kiosk at Platform 4 from a branch of Upper Crust to a Starbucks outlet.

The application read: “The proposal is to upgrade the existing store to the latest store brand concept; a concept currently being introduced across the country within rail station environments.

“The new Starbucks concept will enhance the customer experience and introduce new products to the current range.

“No structural works are proposed, and no alterations to any of the listed building elements is proposed, all building features are to be retained.”

Now the multinational chain has revealed the new store will be opening on Thursday, October 3.

A Starbucks spokesperson said: “We can confirm the Starbucks store at Swindon train station is due to open on Thursday 3 October and we’re looking forward to welcoming the local community and those on their travels."

Members of the public said that the new venue was being stocked and packed earlier this week.

Drawings in the application show a barista area, three small ‘perch’ tables and one larger one in the main body of the café.
