A fish and chips and Chinese takeaway in Swindon will be closed for over two weeks.
The windows of Golden Star on Moredon Road have been covered up and customers have been greeted by a handwritten sign informing them that the takeaway will be closed from Monday, September 30 to Thursday, October 17.
As the menu is still featured in the window, their five star food hygiene rating is proudly displayed near the door and residents have seen people coming and going, it seems the venue is undergoing a refurbishment during this time.
Residents in a Rodbourne Cheney social media group were delighted to see the 1970s building was set to be modernised, with some saying it was “overdue” and wishing the owners luck with the project.
One person commented: “Has it ever been changed from the day it was built? Look forward to seeing the new look.”
While others shared memories of riding their bike to the beloved takeaway as children and ordering a portion of chips back in the 1980s and wondered if their local would stay serving the food they know and love.
Some residents suggested they would love to see the owners re-introduce delivery and card payments.
Golden Star was approached for comment.
