A man starts a 24-hour world record attempt today requiring strength, endurance and a 1.5-tonne van.

Swindon’s Mike Land will try to pull the van farther than anyone ever in history over a full day and night on Down Ampney airfield from midday October 4 to midday October 5.

He hopes to “smash” the current record of 32 miles and has already raised thousands for the Wilshire Air Ambulance Charity.

Mike said: “I’m feeling pretty confident. I have done 24-hour races before. I know what it feels like to get to that stage during the night when you think, I just need to sleep.(Image: Neil Moore)

“But I'm just going to keep pushing on. Because any distance I can gain by not sleeping is going to help me. It’s only a day, isn’t it?”

He extended an invitation to anyone to cheer him on and thanked everyone who helped and donated.

Mike was once told he may never walk again after a freak bungee jump accident which saw him plummet 160 feet and break his pelvis.

Now he will be walking with a Vauxhall Combo strapped to his waist as everyone else sleeps having nearly his fundraising target of £12,000.
