Which is the most sought-after road in Swindon, you may ask?

According to estate agent Charles Harding, The Mall in Old Town is up there, describing the road as a “highly sought-after location”.

It is the location for this “beautifully presented” red-brick Victorian home with bay windows currently up for sale for over half a million.(Image: Charles Harding)

“Entered through a welcoming stone floored hallway”, you next enter a living room with a cast iron fireplace and black radiators.

Another room, possibly the “snug” has green walls and a sofa overflowing with scatter cushions. Meanwhile, pictures show a light-filled kitchen-diner out the back of the house.(Image: Charles Harding)

This continues the subdued colour palette, with grey fittings and black chairs - are they to your taste?

The agent says of the kitchen: “A superb hand-crafted kitchen/dining room with bi-folding doors opening onto a West facing rear garden.”(Image: Charles Harding)

The garden is partly paved with the remainder given over to lawn. Behind the house is painted white.

Upstairs is a master bedroom with an ensuite and three additional bedrooms with a main family bathroom suite.(Image: Charles Harding)

Not only is this “one of the most sought after roads within Old Town”, looking at prices for sales of other homes on The Mall, it is also the most expensive on the street.

Selling for £545,000, the four-bed house is going for nearly £100,000 more than the most recent sale on The Mall and over £200,000 more than the average sale price in SN1.(Image: Charles Harding)

And it is going up - in January 2021, it sold for £452,500. Now a few years later it has been listed for more than 20% more.

It is on the same street as The Commonweal School and less than half a mile from King William Street Church of England Primary School, both rated good by Ofsted.(Image: Charles Harding)

Perhaps it is these aspects that lead to it being an “impressive family home”.

However, the house is by no means the most expensive in the area. In SN1, many houses have gone for more than double what the house on The Mall is asking.

As well as a mysterious number of mid-terrace houses, which are recorded on Zoopla to have sold for over £8 million, is the £1.19 million “Casa Nostra” on Roman Cresent - adjacent to The Mall.
