A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “The aurora borealis may be visible on Friday night, especially in northern areas of the UK.
“Geomagnetic storms are likely but confidence is low on how strong they will be and how far south the northern lights may be seen.”
But the best chance for Wiltshire viewers to see the Northern Lights will come on Saturday, October 5, when the phenomenon could be seen further south.
A Met Office spokesperson continued: “Aurora activity is expected to increase this weekend, leading to aurora potentially being visible across Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England where skies are clear.
“Saturday night has the greatest likelihood of aurora being visible, with a chance that aurora may be visible further south.”
