A person has been pronounced dead on the railway line after a morning of disruption in Swindon.
Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks near Reading at around 9.25am on Monday, October 7.
Despite a large emergency response and the best efforts of paramedics, a person was confirmed dead at the scene.
The British Transport Police (BTP), who attended the scene, have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
It follows a morning of delays and cancellations to trains running between Swindon and London Paddington.
“Officers were called to the line in Reading at around 9.25am on October 7 following reports of a casualty on the tracks," said a spokesperson for BTP.
“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Although the railway line as now been reopened, trains running between Reading and London Paddington, including those departing and arriving at Swindon, are continuing to face delays.
At the time, a spokesperson for Great Western Railway said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Reading and London Paddington, all lines are disrupted.
“Train services running to and from these stations may start or finish at Reading. All stations between Reading and London Paddington will not be served.
“Disruption is expected until noon.”
