A tornado organisation has issued a weather update for Swindon and Wiltshire while a yellow weather warning is in place for thunderstorms.
TORRO has said there could be possible isolated tornadoes in the southwest and gusty winds up to 55mph, hail up to 10mm in diameter and cloud-to-ground lightning.
The update area covers the south, parts of the Midlands, East Anglia and the Channel Islands and is in place from October 8 until 03:00 BST October 9.
It states: “An area of low pressure will move from the SW approaches to the Midlands through this period. Showers and occasional thunderstorms will accompany it.
“Some of the heavier cores may bring hail to around 10mm diameter, perhaps 15mm in the south, where better deep-layer shear may assist in organising cells a little more. Gusty winds to 50-55mph are also possible, as well as occasional CG lightning.
“Whilst the overall tornado risk is low, high low-level relative humidity/low cloud bases, along with reasonable low-level shear, means that an isolated tornado or two is possible.”
The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for Wiltshire from 10am to 10pm on October 8 with heavy showers likely to cause localised disruption and flooding.
