Wiltshire residents woke up to panic and alarm after a BBC error warned of 15000+mph winds heading for the county.

On Thursday morning, October 10, BBC weather reports across the nation faced errors which reported "hurricane-force winds" and soaring temperatures.

In Swindon and Wiltshire, hurricane warnings were issued for "15182mph" winds throughout Thursday and Friday, despite reports of minimal rain and temperatures of 10 degrees.

By Saturday morning, BBC weather showed winds returning to a mere 7mph.

Other parts of the country such as Nottingham showed temperature readings of 404 degrees Celsius.

Despite no reports of high winds or unusually high temperatures on The Met Office website, the morning weather reports caused panic for BBC readers.

Taking to X (Twitter), one BBC weather presenter urged the UK not to be alarmed as there was an error in the BBC weather data which was being "looked at."

"Be assured there won’t be 14408mph winds, hurricane force winds or overnight temperatures of 404°C," said BBC presenter Simon King.

"It is being looked at and hopefully sorted asap."

Met Office weather forecasts for Wiltshire, which are believed to be an accurate prediction, report temperatures of 11 degrees and wind speeds of 8mph on Thursday with a dry and cloudy outlook.
