A restaurant has said it made “big changes” to improve its food hygiene rating from one star to four.

Gulshan Brasserie said they are now “back on track” with the new higher score following a reinspection on October 2.

In its previous inspection, the Shrivenham Indian restaurant was awarded a one-star rating, with inspectors stating that improvements were required in food safety and structural compliance.

A representative said that since then, “we changed pretty much everything in the kitchen. It was quite a big change”.

This included things like new containers, equipment and tables.

The restaurant was also told by council inspectors that major improvement was required for confidence in management.(Image: Google Maps)

It was explained that when the inspector visited, the boss and chef were both away, meaning they could “not present anything to the health officer, and she was not happy”.

The representative added that the period with the low rating had been tough, saying: “It was a hard time for us. We didn’t believe it because this is a very old business and every day we work hard.

“Everything like the electric has gone high [in price] and this was just killing us.”

“[The new rating] is very good and we are hoping that our business is back on track now.”
