A Grade II-listed pub on Swindon’s outskirts is getting a million-pound makeover.
New owners have taken charge of The White Hart in Wroughton and investing a sizeable seven-figure sum into the historic 19th-century landmark.
Tim Hinton – who also manages another pub of the same name in Stratton – and The Plough on the Hill manager Michael Sheridan have teamed up to give the thatched pub and hotel a new lease of life.

The pair aim to introduce restaurant-quality pub dining to Wroughton by featuring a carefully crafted menu and a state-of-the-art pizza oven.
The White Hart will remain open and honour all bookings – including Christmas reservations - while most of the refurbishment is being carried out.
It will then close for two weeks in January so that the final renovations - which include upgrades to the toilets, function room, and bar - can be completed.
A grand reopening will then be pencilled in for early next year and visitors will be able to enjoy the pub’s new look and new menu for the first time.
A spokesperson for The White Hart said: “The pub will blend a traditional atmosphere with refined dining, making it a top choice for food lovers in the area.
“Guests can expect to enjoy classic pub dishes alongside new flavours, all made with high-quality local produce and seasonal ingredients.
“Tim and Mike are dedicated to making The White Hart a destination for quality gastropub dining and a welcoming, family-friendly community experience in Wroughton.”
The pub’s previous landlord Graham Worrallo left in March after it was put up for sale by the owner Butcombe Brewery last December for £925,000.
Mr Worrallo said at the time that it had been “a huge privilege” to oversee the running of the pub and welcome a growing number of customers to the village’s community hub during the 15 months he spent there.
He thanked visitors for their support and suggested that interested parties are keen to build on the work he had done.
The White Hart comprises of two detached buildings - the pub and restaurant are situated in a 19th-century partly thatched building and the thatch has been recently replaced.
The letting block - which features ten bedrooms - is situated in a separate detached construction built around seven years ago.
