Police are investigating an allegation of assault against a restaurant manager on one of his staff members.

An employee of the eatery, based in Swindon town centre, claims their superior tried to punch her twice and had to be restrained by a colleague.

The woman, whom we have chosen not to identify, says the incident occurred on Thursday, September 26, after she raised concerns about another individual's behaviour at the business.

She said someone else had to hold back the aggressor after they suddenly became “erratic” and lunged at her because they “didn’t like what was being said".

She no longer works at the establishment but wants action to be taken over the incident.

“You go to work and you don’t expect to be in danger”, she said.

“I didn’t return to work obviously and my manager has not reached out to check if I’m ok.

“It’s been very upsetting and the whole situation is a double blow when I’ve lost my livelihood, I’m emotionally upset and could have been physically hurt – it’s hit my mental health hard.

“Hopefully something will happen legally. They haven't reached out to me and I’d like them to know that after the hard work I’ve put in when I was working six or seven days a week, it’s disgusting.”

Police are understood to have taken CCTV footage from the establishment and they are investigating the reports further, and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We are investigating a report of an assault at a place of work in New Town, Swindon.

“If you have any information that could help with our enquiries, please contact us on 101 quoting reference number 54240113923.”
