A woman who booked a deluxe facial treatment at a Swindon salon claims it ended up giving her first-degree burns.

Gillian Collett visited Justi’s Hair and Beauty on September 16 for a relaxing facial treatment, but she says that was far from what she received.

She claims a steam roller was placed on her face and caused a severe burn to her forehead.

She paid the full amount - £43 – and left the salon feeling distressed, before calling her daughter Laura to explain what had happened.

Laura said: “There was no warning they were going to put something hot on her face, so when it happened my mum screamed out in pain and the lady said ‘I won’t use that one again.’

“They didn’t treat the burns, had they at the time then potentially it wouldn’t be as bad, but there wasn't even an accident form done.

“My mum did say she was happy to continue with the treatment but in the end, she was upset and shocked and paid her to get out.

“I went back up there to get a refund and gave my number for the owner to contact me, which didn’t happen.

"I contacted him and still didn’t get a response for a while, but when he did reply he was quite good to begin with, and then he left it completely.

"He didn’t check in and didn’t offer to pay for petrol or parking when my mum had to go to Bristol Burns Unit. He dropped off the radar.

“You can see blisters had started to form on her forehead and they said to put aloe vera on it, but didn’t offer to put something else on it.

“We went to hospital the next day and my mum isn’t one to make a fuss. She didn’t want to go unless she had to, but it was weeping pus. Great Western Hospital sent photos to Bristol Burns Unit and then she went up for treatment.

“At the Burns Unit, they said they can’t say if it’ll permanently scar or not, if it gets infected it could scar. At the moment it’s still pink and you can see there’s something not right there.

Laura added: “The main thing is about raising awareness, for me I’m annoyed I didn’t look more into it and read reviews before my mum went.”

The owner of Justi’s Hair and Beauty, Sylvester King, said: “As this case is now with solicitors it will be unprofessional for me to comment until the matter is closed.”

It is understood the member of staff no longer works at the salon.
