Businessmen trying to transform a closed town centre pub into a one-of-a-kind takeaway are one step closer to success.

Renovation work has recently been carried out on what was once known as the Slurping Toad on Bridge Street to turn it into a carvery and bap takeaway called Something Tasty.

Tenancy contracts for the new owners were drawn up years ago and Mr Benjamin then started hiring contractors to carry out the work and train staff in preparation for his new venture.

However issues reconnecting the power supply to the building by replacing three fuses delayed progress for months as SSEN reportedly claimed that the site was not on their books and the engineer who could fix the problem was often unavailable.

The site has been dormant for 16 years but is now nearly ready to reopen after getting a new lease of life under the name Vinyl Tap.

Before it can welcome customers in for a look around the revamped premises, the team in charge must get approval from Swindon Borough Council to officially operate out of the two-storey structure.

An application has been made to the Licensing Authority for Swindon for the grant of a new premises licence by Simon Benjamin, Vito Mazzotta, Dorothy Topley in respect of 30 Bridge Street.

The application - sent in earlier this month - is requesting permission for various licensable activities and times.

If approved, it would be able to sell by retail the consumption of alcoholic beverages within the premises during opening hours of 11am to 11pm Monday to Sunday, play recorded music during those same hours, and feature live music between 8pm and 10.30pm on Tuesday and Saturdays.

The full application may be inspected at the Swindon Borough Council Civic Offices, Euclid Street, Swindon, SN1 2JH between the hours of 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Responsible authorities, and/or other persons (e.g. people/business living or working within the vicinity) can make representations at any time until November 8, 2024.

All representations must be made in writing (including email or fax, to the Licensing Authority, at the above address or by email to licensing@swindon.gov.uk

It is an offence to knowingly or recklessly make a false statement in connection with an application, for which a person is liable on summary conviction is an unlimited fine.

When he spoke to the Adver in June, Mr Benjamin said that he would like the takeaway to have a noticeboard for people to post things they want to buy and sell, and charging points for electric wheelchairs.
