Organisers of the Trowbridge Carnival procession have praised the thousands of people who turned out to support the event on Saturday, October 19.

Thousands of people lined the streets to watch the procession go by and one eyewitness said: “The town centre was absolutely crammed.”

Trowbridge Town Council leader Stewart Palmen said: “The carnival was excellent Well done to all involved in organising it and taking part, it was a great event for the town.”

Simon Selby, the Polish government’s honorary consult for the South West of England, who lives in Trowbridge, added: “Very enjoyable; well worth a stroll into town.”

Wiltshire Council opened Manvers Street for the evening to allow people to access the carnival procession as it wended its way through the town centre.

Carnival organiser Jo Gray said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to all volunteers, entries, judges, road crew and of course everyone that has watched last night.

“This was our first carnival as a somewhat new committee and they all did amazing! Of course there were some small teething concerns, but that’s just a nationwide carnival tradition!

“Thank you all for your continuous support, and let’s hope that next year we can go bigger and better.

“Keep an eye out for any more news regarding fundraisers. We have some new events in mind.”

Ms Gray was delighted the weather stayed fine for this year’s event as the Trowbridge celebrated putting on its first dry carnival in six years.

She said: “The carnival was wonderful. The residents of Trowbridge really pulled out the stops to support us this year.

“The town had more walking entries than it has ever had and the procession was fantastic.”

This year’s procession saw six floats, two marching bands and five majorette troops taking part, as well as dozens of walking entries.

Posting on social media, Donna Hall said: “It was excellent. Such a massive amount of effort and energy clearly went in to all of it, people involved with floats, groups or those dressed up on their own, it was just brilliant.”

Tina Mortimer added: “Fantastic carnival. Well done everyone involved. Needed more bucket collectors as I think you lost out on donations.

“Could the float that collects coins maybe be at the end so people can throw in what they have left, instead of being near the front?”
