Queues built up on the M4 motorway eastbound between junctions 17 and 16 throughout rush hour around 9am this morning, October 22.
Police closed one lane of the motorway and an eyewitness reported seeing a “recovery van by the side of the road and a silver car had ploughed into the undergrowth off the carriageway”.
Wiltshire Police say that around 5am the same morning it received reports of a vehicle being driven erratically between junctions 17 and 16.
The driver, a woman in her 30s, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is in custody ready for questioning.
