A playing field in Swindon usually reserved for locals to play football has been left damaged and out of use by a quad bike rider.

Staff at Central Swindon North Parish Council, which manages Seven Fields Recreation Ground have been left 'disappointed' and 'frustrated' after discovering the state of the field over the weekend.

The vandalism of the field is understood to have been caused by an adult male riding a quad bike with his children on the pitch.

This has been reported to Wiltshire Police.

A spokesperson for the parish council said: "It is with great disappointment that we inform residents about significant damage caused to the playing surface at Seven Fields Recreation Ground, Pitch 2, over the weekend.

"An adult male was witnessed riding a quad bike with his children on the pitch, resulting in severe damage to the turf.

"As a result, the pitch is now out of use until necessary repairs can be made, which will take some time to recover.

"This incident has been reported to the police, and we encourage anyone with information that may help identify the individual responsible to come forward.

"We are deeply frustrated by this act of vandalism, which impacts the enjoyment and use of the space for everyone in our community.

Anyone who witnessed what happened is encouraged to call Wiltshire Police and quote crime reference number 54240124238.
