THE landmark town centre building that was once filled with shoppers browsing racks of the latest fashions and top of the range cosmetics will soon become storage for people's possessions.

What council officers called a significant example of brutalist architecture, was the home of Swindon's branch of Debenhams for decades and had welcomed customers since the 1960s when it was Bon Marche.

It shut in March 2020 for the first lockdown and never reopened.

A rummage through the Adver archives has revealed images of happier times when it was a popular destination for shoppers and when staff played a part in town life.
