A recently opened fish and chip shop has received its first food hygiene rating.
The owners of Best Fish & Chips in Swindon’s Old Town, Halime and her husband Ramzan, were delighted to see their hard work pay off when they were visited for a food hygiene inspection on September 13.
Food safety officers awarded the establishment the top food hygiene rating of five and ranked the hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety good.
The couple, who own the neighbouring kebab takeaway, say it was a dream come true to open a second shop in Swindon back in April and enjoy running the businesses with help from their children.
They were also very proud to bring a twist to the classic fish and chip shop with their homemade Turkish delicacies.
Halime said: “I’m so happy. The inspector checked everywhere but I believed in myself and was comfortable because I know it’s clean, it’s like my house.

“It was taking time but now it’s better than before, we have regular customers and everyone comes back and we have lots of new customers. Everyone likes my food and leaves positive reviews.
“I like making the customers happy. Our breakfast finishes at 2 in the afternoon but if they ask for it at 4 then we will make it for them fresh and to their preference.
“The Turkish breakfast is very popular and we’re doing different food for people to try.”
Alongside cod and chips, the menu features pizza, pide and borek and their Turkish breakfast showcases an array of jams, cheeses, borek pastries and breads, which pairs nicely with the Turkish tea on offer.

“It's not just about business, it is actually about being friends at the same time.
“I like to talk to the kids, see how they are getting on, and be friends with them because they do not really want to be kept waiting.”
Best Fish & Chips is located at 25 Victoria Road and they are open seven days a week from 11am to 10pm.
