Work is underway on the expansion of a Greggs store in Swindon town centre.

The Parade Greggs shop has been given permission by Swindon Borough Council to expand into the two neighbouring units, which has been empty since the charity shop Swindon Sisters Alliance moved out of the space on September 21.

Emma King set up the organisation following the murder of her sister Julie Butcher in 2005 to offer support to victims of domestic violence.

She was gifted the town centre shop in 2020 and after running it for four years, she is focusing on her two smaller shops in Gorse Hill and Moredon.

The shop was quickly boarded up and work began promptly to convert the vacant units into a larger Greggs store.

The bakery chain has confirmed it is set to open within the next month, but staff are yet to provide further details about what customers can expect.

A Greggs spokesperson said: “Greggs is due to open a new and improved shop in Swindon within the next month as we expand across a second unit in The Parade. We will be able to share further details with you closer to the opening.”
