The “best fireworks in Swindon” is one of the biggest, says the organiser, drawing up to 4,500 people last year and looking forward to another successful year.

The Swindon Lions Fireworks Display at the Polo Ground has “been popular time and time again” with fireworks set to music, a funfair and food.

Richard High, event organiser, said: “The atmosphere is amazing. When you go from just having a field with some vehicles in, to getting the people in and the crowd, they start buying novelty lights, they're on the fun fair.

“We get towards go time, and there's this awesome air of expectation. When the first firework goes up, it's set to music.

“The first music, the first fireworks, is just such an amazing feeling getting to that point and just seeing the crowd enjoy it.”

Richard believes it is the best firework event, but could not say for certain having never attended any of the others.

Last year it drew between 4,000 and 4,500 people, and Richard thinks it is much better to go along to a community display that have your own in your garden.

He said: “We would encourage them to come to us rather than to buy a box and do it at home because we put a lot of effort into the safety of the events.

“And you’ll see a lot more coming to our event than you'd be able to buy at a supermarket.”

There will also be entertainment provided by BBC Wiltshire and James Threlfall.

The November 2 will help the Swindon Lions contribute to good causes, with the organisation having given nearly £20,000 away in the last year.

This included £13,490 to community causes, £4,100 to social care and more to overseas appeals and youth.

Community causes have included local groups such as Swindon Food Collective, Wiltshire Tree House, Dressibility, Tiny but Mighty, Open Door and Julia's House Hospice.

Free parking is provided to attendees by Nationwide in their HQ car park, with a free shuttle bus then taking them to the event field.

Attendees should follow the signs to Nationwide car park on Pipers Way, SN31TA, where the shuttle bus will pick them up.

30 minutes should be allowed for the bus journey, with the display starting at 6.45pm promptly.

The public is banned from bringing sparklers, alcohol and fireworks into the event.
