A drunk driver caught more than four times the legal alcohol limit went the wrong way around a Swindon roundabout.

Anubhav Banerjee, of Lineacre Close in Grange Park, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to one charge of drink-driving.

When stopped and breathalysed by police on King Henry Drive on September 13, 2024, the 44-year-old gave a reading of 167 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Abbie Winters, prosecuting, told the court: "Police received a report about a vehicle driving dangerously, hitting the white lines and kerbs, and on the wrong side of the road going over a roundabout.

"They saw the vehicle driving 10mph approaching Hook Street, which is a 30mph zone.

"Police flashed blue lights. At first, the defendant did not notice them asking him to pull over.

"They smelled alcohol on his breath. The defendant struggled to turn off his vehicle and it took him one minute to put the handbrake on.

"[Officers] found a metal flask in the centre console with alcohol in."

The case has been adjourned to November 21 so that a pre-sentence report can be prepared. Until then, Banerjee has been released on unconditional bail and banned from driving.
