One person was rushed to hospital after a crash in Swindon caused “traffic chaos” at rush hour.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a crash on Cricklade Road, near the Grafton Road junction, shortly after 5pm on Wednesday, October 30.

A witness at the scene told the Adver three police cars, an ambulance, and a fire engine were all in attendance following the incident.

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) confirmed one person was taken to Great Western Hospital.

The severity of their injuries is unknown at this stage.

The scene of the incidentThe scene of the incident (Image: Newsquest) A spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.06pm on Wednesday, October 30, to a road traffic collision in Swindon.

“We sent one double-crewed land ambulance and an operations officer to the scene. We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Great Western Hospital”.

There were long queues on Cricklade Road that backed up onto the A419 and Thamesdown Drive for around an hour while the scene was cleared.

One driver said: “I arrived near Aldi on Thamesdown Drive at 5.10pm and traffic was already jammed.

“It took me 50 minutes to move less than half a mile to Grafton Road junction.”

The fire service confirmed one crew from Stratton was sent to Cricklade Road to ensure the scene was safe.

Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
