Drivers caused a nuisance by revving their engines at night in a supermarket car park.

Roads Policing Unit officers attended the scene in Chippenham during the early hours of Monday morning and spoke to the motorists.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said "RPU out spoiling the fun of these engine revvers in a Chippenham supermarket car park tonight.

"Sorry it’s not so much fun for the residents that have to listen to the noise and get abuse from drivers.

"Oh and yes you still need insurance too. Papers issued."

This is part of the police's ongoing work to tackle noise and anti-social driving in the evenings following complaints from neighbours living in the area.

Last month, Wiltshire Police said it had seen a "noticeable improvement"  in the number of disruptive incidents at the Sainsbury’s car park, on Bath Road in Chippenham, since automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras were installed which prevent drivers from parking at the site for longer than two hours while the store is open and 10 minutes while it is closed.

However, it was thought that some of these gatherings had moved to the Morrison's car park off West Cepen Way, which does not have an ANPR system.
