ANPR technology being used by Wiltshire Police has tracked down uninsured cars in the town, in a crackdown on illegal vehicles.
ANPR, which stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition, uses advanced technology to read registration numbers and instantly check them against a database of vehicle records.
The technology is now being used by Wiltshire Police, in ANPR cameras at fixed locations and in police cars which can use 'activation markers' to help to track down vehicles on the move.
On Monday, November 4, officers from Stratton, Central, North and West Swindon followed an activation marker from one of their ANPR cars for a vehicle which the number plate technology picked up as being uninsured.
Helped by Swindon CPT Response Team and Neighbourhood Policing Officers, PC Turner of Wiltshire Police was able to stop and seize the vehicle.

"Following an activation marker from one of our ANPR Cars, the vehicle was stopped," said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police.
"The driver was unable to provide sufficient evidence showing any insurance for the vehicle, and so it has been seized and recovered.
"If you have concerns or know of any information about drivers that are using the roads and not insuring their vehicles then let us know.
"This can be none via crime stoppers or directly to the Police via 101 or online reporting. If its an emergency then call 999."
