The director of the Harry Potter films is coming to a Swindon cinema for a special screening of locally made short films.

David Yates directed the final four Harry Potter films: Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows Parts One and Two. He also directed the three films of its prequel series, Fantastic Beasts and lived in Gorse Hill.

He will be joining Create Studios on November 22 when they showcase three short films made by Short Film Fund winners.

A spokesperson said: “David will be there to congratulate our winners in person – we are looking forward to an unforgettable experience for all!”

The Create Studios Short Film Fund was set up in collaboration with David Yates, whose production company Wychwood Media is a patron of Create Studios.

It gave two winners aged between 18 and 35 local to Swindon mentoring and funding - including free kit hire worth up to £10k and a £1,000 budget each.

The studio adds: “This fund is to help young filmmakers who have some experience in filmmaking, to take the next step in their creative career.”

Create Studios doubles as a cinema every Thursday at 7pm for its ‘Sofa Screenings’.
