Police are appealing for witnesses following a distraction burglary in Swindon.

They have released photos of two men who knocked on a man's door in St Marys Grove on Friday, November 8 and asked to clean his guttering and take scrap metal away.

The victim agreed for some items to be disposed of and the men completed several trips from the back to the front of the house, while the victim went to retrieve his safe to pay them.

However, after they left the property, he noticed his safe was missing, which contained £1,970 cash, a ring and several important personal documents.

One of the suspects is described as scruffy, white, aged in his late 50s with blue eyes, grey short-medium length hair and grey stubble.

He was wearing faded blue jeans and a blue checker shirt with a grey t-shirt underneath.

The other man was aged in his late 20s, of thin build with short black hair, brown eyes and no stubble.

He was wearing black jeans, a well-worn black t-shirt with a body warmer and black fingerless gloves.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward, including people who may have answered the door to the pair.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We believe the men were driving a white Ford transit van.

“We would like to speak with anyone who may have answered the door to these men recently, even if you turned them away.

“We'd also like to speak with the men in these photographs as we think they can help.

“Please call 101 quoting crime reference number 54240132170 if you can help with our ongoing investigation.”
