The current state of the Oasis Leisure Centre hall has been shown in a video taken by an urban explorer.

The explorer said the hall “doesn’t look that bad” - with the lights on, some holes in the ceiling, and dirt and debris on the hall floor - having been closed since 2020.

The hall was not included in plans for a refurbishment of the Oasis leaked last month to a member of the public - a leak Swindon Borough Council called a “serious breach of confidentiality” which “tried to… undermine the forthcoming public consultation”.

Plans include high-rise apartments and warehouses, but a scaling back of outdoor leisure facilities, reduction of parking spaces and the following-through of demolishing the sports hall.

The leaked proposals, presented by architect Ian Harding via Teams, included a 3D model showing nine high-rise blocks of flats ranging from six to eight storeys.

They also demonstrated that the car park consisting of almost 500 spaces would be significantly reduced to 200.

The dome is being retained alongside the lagoon pool, dome busters slides and dry-side facilities of a gym, cafe and bowling alley.

In the meantime, the council approved plans to strike the dome with hammers to see whether the reinforced concrete is still in a safe condition.
