The cause of a bungalow fire in Swindon has been revealed.

Firefighters rushed to a property on Drove Road at around 3:08am on Wednesday morning to find the roof of the bungalow alight.

A man was rescued from his home while several crews from Swindon, Stratton, Westlea, Marlborough, Royal Wootton Bassett and Pewsey tackled the blaze.

A neighbour, Chris Howell, described being woken up by his dog who was trying to alert him to the fire and he rang emergency services at 3:06am.

The ex-firefighter said he saw a woman exit the property but a disabled man was trapped inside and the fire crews arrived just two minutes later and promptly brought him to safety.

At around 7:15am, many of the fire crews left the scene, while one remained to investigate the cause of the incident, which is thought to be an electric bathroom fan.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The fire investigation has now finished and the officer believes the most likely cause to be an electric bathroom fan."
