A Swindon man previously voted winner of the 'Pride of Swindon' award is set to stand trial for assault.

Thomas Stamp, of Pasteur Drive in Old Town, appeared in Swindon Magistrate's Court on Thursday, November 14, faced with one charge of assault by beating.

Prosecutor Mr Power told the court: “The defendant is accused of assaulting his father and the incident was seen by a number of witnesses and on CCTV footage."

But the 22-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty and is now set to stand trial for the matter.

“There was an incident whereby he was upset and the suggestion was he assaulted his father," explained defence lawyer Mr Jameson.

“However, his father didn’t wish to make a complaint and he has been called as a defence witness in the trial.”

The lawyer also noted in court that Stamp has cerebral palsy, ADHD, autism and PTSD which affect his life in various ways.

The 22-year-old was picked as winner of the Pride of Swindon award back in 2019 after he won medals at the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association World Games.

Now Stamp will reappear at Swindon Magistrate's Court on Monday, December 2, for further case management before a date for his trial is set.

He has been released on unconditional bail until then.
