The burnt remains of a houseboat on Lechlade Marina can be seen after a fatal fire killed a man and police launched an investigation.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service were called to Lechlade Marina, near to Swindon, at around 6.30am on Friday, November 15 to reports of a fire on one of the houseboats.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services who attended, a man who had been on board the boat died.

Members of the Lechlade community have reacted to the news on social media, paying tribute to the owner of the boat who was well known in the boating community. 

One person wrote: "A fair few boaters across the system will be raising a glass to you tonight."

Others described him as a "Real Lechlade character."

We have made the decision not to identify him at this time.

Police officers are appealing for anyone who was in the Lechlade Marina area from around 6am, or who may have information regarding the incident which led to the man's death, to come forward.

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident number 74 of November 15.
